Learn how to start your family history using tools and resources provided, makes finding your ancestors easier. Using computers and mobile devices to search sources for family names, and learn how to attach names, records, photos, memories, biographies, and keepsakes that will last forever. Master Naturalists’ program on Bobwhite
The Coastal Prairie Chapter-Texas Master Naturalists will present a free Jan. 3 program about “Bobwhite Quail: Canary of the Prairie” by Amber Leung. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Rosenberg Civic Center, 3825 Texas 36 South, Rosenberg. Many people grew up hearing the distinctive “ah bob WHITE” call of quail. Where are the quail now? The Northern bobwhite lives all over Texas, but their population has been declining in the past 40 years.Leung’s co-presenters are a pair of tame bobwhite quail, hatched and raised to be animal ambassadors, putting a feathered face on the effects of habitat loss. Learn to use 3D printer
Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd., will have a free demonstration and instructional session on the use of its 3D printer on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 10:15 am to 12:15 p.m., in the Computer Lab. In the class, “Intro to 3D Printing,” library staff will introduce the 3D printer and explain how library patrons can print their own designs. Those attending the session will also learn about free websites that can be used to create their own 3D designs. Attendees are encouraged to create an account with Tinkercad at www.tinkercad.com prior to the class. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. Rienzi collection paintings
Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center, 16600 Pine Forest Lane, will feature a Jan. 3 program about paintings in the Rienzi collection at The Museum of Fine Arts presented by the manager of learning and interpretation. The lecture will be from 10-11 a.m. How does a private house become a museum? Come hear how Houston philanthropists, Harris and Carroll Masterson’s, enthusiasm for art and history led them to donate their 1950s home and European decorative arts collection to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Learn to create zentangles
A Jan. 3 Zentangles Art Class will be offered at the Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center, 16600 Pine Forest Lane, from 1-3 p.m. The class will meet for six weeks on Thursdays. Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created through simple, structured patterns called tangles on small paper tiles.
