To save time and money during 3D printing projects, we have to work to prevent mistakes ahead of time, rather than just fixing them after the fact. In 2014, Wyoming-based Avante Technology LLC, which develops, markets, and licenses products and technology for 3D printing applications, introduced its Emendo Automated STL Validation & File Repair software. Two years later, the company released the 1.1 version of the software, which is 10 times faster and has the same level of accuracy as the previous release; version 1.2 was introduced soon after.
Avante specializes in developing advanced 3D printing technologies, with a focus on industrial applications, and provides state-of-the-art STL file analysis and repair software. Industrial applications need 3D print jobs that are precise and accurate, which in turn need quality STL files from the get-go. That’s why this latest generation of complex STL files requires more than conventional file repair methods are capable of delivering, such as advanced repair algorithms and mesh analysis.
The company has just announced its latest product, the high-precision Emendo Cloud Automated STL File Analysis & Repair service, which is targeted at professional designers and engineers. As Zollo tells us, this high performance, cloud-based repair service can provide more comprehensive repairs of hybrid and compound, or mashup, STL files that aren’t possible with more traditional file repair algorithms.
“The growth of design work groups and a more varied range of design software has created the need for more comprehensive repair and file analysis. Emendo Cloud delivers high precision repairs of the broader range of STL file types in use today,” Zollo said. “It also delivers precision repairs at the higher processing speeds cloud based computing provides.”
The service addresses how to quickly repair large, complex files, how to determine the cause of the errors so as not to repeat them for every new design, and how to perform high precision repairs of both single and multiple component STL files. These are three of the most common STL file problems, so learning how to take care of them is an advantage for designers and engineers.
Emendo Cloud Automated STL File Analysis & Repair includes visual analysis tools that can help users discover the location and possible cause of file problems, so design mistakes are not repeated for additional projects. It also provides users with three different modes of viewing access for file errors, down to individual facet levels, by their location and type.
The service also makes it faster to repair these problems, with two different modes of operation. First, drag an STL file to the Emendo Cloud upload box for automatic upload – the software will then also automatically analyze and display the file to give you a more detailed viewing.
It’s easy to rotate the file, and zoom in through translucent, solid, and wire frame views to find problem zones and errors inside. By giving users more detailed information on the internal details of a file through these three different viewing modes, the service saves time – and frustration – while they work to improve CAD designs for 3D printing and CNC applications.
Then, you can just choose an automatic repair, or manually set modes and optional settings in order to optimize the various repairs for hybrid, multiple STL component, and damaged files. The original file, and all of the repaired versions of it, will be safely stored, so you can view or download them at a later date.
In addition, this new service from Avante comes with two repair speeds. A fast, multi-processor repair is the default, while a high performance mode – which costs just a little more than the default – is available for users looking for something with a little more oomph.
The Emendo Cloud Service will be available for purchase starting early next month. The cost for Single Repairs starts at just $6.00, and volume use pricing and OEM licensing are both available upon request. In addition, multiple subscriptions, from monthly to those with annual terms, are available for individuals, work groups, and sites.
In addition to its high quality STL file repair software, Avante also provides technical consulting and “design-to-print” services for companies that need 3D printed injection molds for short run molding applications, as well as a proprietary line of engineering grade composite materials for use in FFF 3D printers.
